Overtime Claims Unit
The Overtime Claims Unit came into existence in July 2000 to deal with claims arising from the Young v. State of Oregon lawsuit.  The essence of the lawsuit:  an oversight in writing the laws pertaining to employees classified as exempt (not due overtime for extra hours worked).  The State became liable for overtime hours worked by these employees during a 26 month period, July 1995 to August 1997.
After a review of the situation, the Risk Management Division decided the most cost-effective method of handling the claims was to set up a temporary unit, the OT Claims Unit.  The unit will exist until all claims are processed.
