Media campaign targets junk food advertising to kids
Media campaign targets junk food advertising to kids
Fed up with junk food advertising to young children? You're not alone. The average American child sees more than 40,000 commercials a year, half of which promote food. And, a whopping 97 percent of those ads encourage kids to eat sugared cereal, high-calorie snacks and fast food. To throw cold water on the barrage of commercials, the Nutrition Council of Oregon has launched a campaign of its own to raise awareness among parents of young children. It suggests they:

• Offer children healthy food choices;
• Limit TV and computer time;
• Teach kids to be media literate and understand the tactics advertisers use.

Protect yourself, your family and your co-workers by getting vaccinated and staying informed. The fewer of us who get sick from either seasonal influenza or pandemic H1N1 influenza, the more we can reduce the impact in our schools and workplaces.
