The Oregon Department of Agriculture offers a variety of testing services for farmers and growers that export their crops or products to other countries. These tests are designed to meet the phytosanitary, or quarantine, requirements of the international customer. The services offered include:
- Seed testing for pathogens
- Seed field inspection and certification
- Potato field inspection and certification
- Mint field inspection and certification for Union and Klamath counties
- Allium (onion, garlic, chive, leek, and shallot) field inspection and certification for Union, Jefferson, Crook, and Deschutes counties
- Virus-free certification and testing for ornamental and fruit trees
- Endophyte testing for grass seed
The seed testing for export is offered by the Commodity Inspection Division . Commodity inspectors collect official samples and deliver them to the Plant Health section for testing. Other seed testing services, including varietal testing for potatoes, grasses, and other crops, are offered through the Oregon Seed Services Laboratory at Oregon State University. The Plant Health section performs field inspections of Allium and mint for in-state planting in areas subject to Oregon Control Area Orders, and potato and vegetable seed crops for export. Field inspection applications should be completed, signed, and submitted to the Oregon Department of Agriculture so these crops can be inspected for pests of quarantine significance to our international customers. The Plant Health section also inspects Malus (apple), Pyrus (pear), Prunus (cherry) and Cydonia (quince) nursery stock for viruses of international quarantine significance.
